Duc Chinh gave Park Hang-seo’s side a two-goal lead in the first half before completing his hat-trick early in the second. Trieu Viet Hung, Nguyen Thanh Chung and Nguyen Trong Hung got on the scoresheet in the remainder of the match to round off a resounding victory for the Vietnamese side.

The straightforward win against Brunei has temporarily put Vietnam U22s on top of Group B with three points and a goal difference of +6. The Group B qualification will continue tomorrow (Nov. 26) with Thailand playing Indonesia and Laos confronting Singapore.

As he had previously stated, Park Hang-seo kept a number of pillars on the bench, including Nguyen Quang Hai, Do Hung Dung and Doan Van Hau. However, with a superior lineup, Vietnam comfortably produced a lopsided game against the Bruneian opponents.

Park’s troops successfully set the pace of the match shortly after the first whistle and needed only 10 minutes to concretise their dominance, with Duc Chinh heading home from close range to open the scoring.

Inspired by the goal, Vietnam maintained their pressure and doubled their advantage in the next 13 minutes, as Thanh Thinh burst down in the left wing before passing the ball to Duc Chinh who placed a low shot toward the far corner to gift Vietnam a two-goal lead into halftime.

The SHB Da Nang striker continued his brilliant display by scoring the third goal for Park’s side three minutes into the second half with another close-range header.

Trong Hoang spurned a good chance to widen Vietnam’s advantage in the 57th minute shooting the ball high in front of the empty net. However, home fans had to wait only three more minutes to celebrate the fourth goal, with Viet Hung putting away a clever finish in a one-on-one with the Brunei keeper.

The remainder of the match saw a bunch of opportunities created by the Vietnamese side, two of which were successfully converted by Park’s players, thanks to strikes by Thanh Chung (66’) and Trong Hung (83’).

The 6-0 rout of Brunei could be seen as a perfect start for Vietnam U22s in their bid to conquer the long-awaited SEA Games men’s football gold medal. Next up for Park’s troops will be a clash with Laos on November 28.
