At the ceremony, newly-elected State President To Lam promised to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution and to do his best to well complete tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

He said the new position provides him a chance to join hands with the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and dedicate all of his heart and mind to serve the country and the people following the path chosen by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.

The leader said that the country’s current fortune, potential, and international position and prestige are important premises for him to be able to fulfill his responsibilities as the State President.

The new State President pledged to strictly and fully perform his tasks and authority, actively carry out the country's domestic and foreign affairs, defence and security tasks, while joining the entire Party, people, army and organisations in the political system to promote the spirit of “self-reliance, self-confidence, self-strength, self-resilience, and national pride.”

He vowed to strive to successfully implement all of the Party's policies and guidelines, starting with the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, aiming to achieve the country's centennial goals under the Party's leadership, and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to turn Vietnam into a socialism-oriented, developed and high-income nation.

Earlier, with 472 “yes” votes out of 473 attending deputies, the 15th National Assembly approved the resolution on the election of To Lam, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security and deputy to the 15th NA as the State President for the 2021-2026 tenure.
