Vien completed the 400 metres in 4:43:53.
There were no surprises on the top rung of the podium as Hungarian swimming star Katina Hosszu came out on top at 4:35:80. Hosszu’s countryman Zsuzsanna Zakabos came second with 4:37:63.
Natalie Cammile Adams from the US was holding onto third place for the first 200 metres, but Vien passed her in breaststroke to take the medal.
Vien won a silver medal during the 2015 FINA (International Swimming Federation) World Cup Moscow in Russia earlier this month.
