Viet Nam’s ST25 rice has once again been crowned the world’s best rice, sharing the honour with Cambodia’s Phka Romdoul at the World’s Best Rice Award 2025 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Viet Nam and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on rice trade at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea on October 30, a new step to promote economic collaboration and ensure regional food security.
The Department of Domestic Market Management and Development has reported that nearly six tonnes of rice were sold during a successful livestream session held on the social media platform TikTok as part of the 2025 Viet Nam Agricultural Products Week.
The domestic rice market has seen a downward price trend as exporters have slowed their purchases, while demand in the Asian region remains subdued.
Many Vietnamese rice enterprises are now redirecting their exports to more distant markets, including Africa, while also boosting shipments of premium rice varieties like ST24 and ST25 to Japan, the Republic of Korea and the European Union.
In response to the Philippines’ suspension of rice imports for 60 days starting from September 1, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued Official Dispatch No. 6600/BCT-XNK to provincial and municipal People’s Committees, the Viet Nam Food Association, and rice export traders.
Over the past week, the price of Viet Nam’s rice exports rose due to increasing stockpiling demand from the Philippines before its 60-day import suspension starting September 1. On August 14, 5% broken rice was offered at 395 USD/tonne, up 4 USD.
By the end of July 2025, rice prices across Asia had declined with Viet Nam as the exception, according to the Viet Nam Food Association.
