The lucky passenger was Chen Chen Ho who arrived on the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines’ flight VN581 from Kaohsiung. The 24,999,999th passenger was Nguyen Quang Son on Vietjet Air’s flight VJ153 from Hanoi.

Tan Son Nhat Airport has two runways with respective lengths of 3,048 and 3,059 metres which are able to accommodate modern jet airliners such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350.

However the airport has been constantly overloaded in recent years as the annual number of passengers always exceeds its designed capacity of 20 million.

Last year, Tan Son Nhat Airport received more than 22 million passengers and the figure is projected to increase by 18% to 26 million in 2015, of which 10 million are foreign travellers.

Currently the airport is serving around 400 flights a day from 43 airlines across the world.

The number of daily flights is expected to increase to 660 during the upcoming traditional New Year festival and may peak at 689, up 10% compared with the previous year.

The airport authority is planning upgrade work to raise the capacity of the international terminal from 10 million to 13 million passengers a year, and the number of parking places from 41 to 46.

A multi-storey car park is also under construction and scheduled to be completed in March 2016.

In addition to infrastructure, the Tan San Nhat Airport operator has also taken measures to improve services such as information, restaurants and Wi-Fi.
