Vice Secretary General of the Thai Board of Investment ( BOI), Vasana Mututanont made the remarks at a workshop on trade and investment in Vietnam, which was held by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and BOI in Bangkok on September 18.
According to Paskorn Siriyaphan from MFA, Vietnam is an important market for Thai investors, and the MFA always attaches importance to introducing and popularising investment opportunities in Vietnam to Thai businesses.
Trade between Vietnam and Thailand has grown significantly in recent years, with two-way trade reaching US$9.5 billion in 2011, compared to only US$3.6 billion in 2006.
Thailand ranks third among ASEAN countries investing in Vietnam with a total investment at US$6.7 billion. Its projects created jobs for over 12,000 Vietnamese workers.
Thai leading economic groups such as Bangkok Bank, Charoen Pokphan and Siam Cement Group recently have decided to expand their business in Vietnam.
