These sections include the stretch from the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong interchange to National Highway 1A and from the Phuoc An interchange to National Highway 51. The VEC temporarily opened these routes on January 23, 2025, to accommodate Lunar New Year travel demands.
VEC Chairman Truong Viet Dong stated that project challenges have been resolved, allowing construction to resume in the third quarter of 2023. The western section (Km3+420 to Km21+739.5) and the eastern section (Km35+900 to Km50+530) are set for completion by April 30, 2025, with full expressway completion targeted for 2026.
Nguyen Ngoc Canh, Deputy Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee, emphasised the project’s significance in overcoming bureaucratic and funding obstacles. He urged the VEC to accelerate work, aiming to complete the remaining sections before April 30, 2025, and open the full expressway by 2026.
The 58-km Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, with an investment of nearly 29.6 trillion VND, spans Long An (3 km), Ho Chi Minh City (26 km), and Dong Nai (29 km). Once completed, it will enhance connectivity between the Mekong Delta and Southeastern Vietnam, driving economic and social development in this key economic zone.
Construction began in October 2014, with a planned completion in 2019. However, work stalled at 80% completion due to funding and policy issues, delaying progress for several years.
