During the working session, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) informed the Deputy PM about the obstacles facing the project, including capital shortage and the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the suspension of construction since mid-2019.
VEC said the company is working hard to restart the project but the new deadline for completion by the end of 2023 is likely to be missed.
For his part, Deputy PM Thanh spoke highly of the efforts by Long An Province, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province to clear the land for the project and underlined the need to focus on transport infrastructure development in the coming years.
He stated that in the spirit of approval by the National Assembly and the Politburo, institutional hurdles are already resolved and now the only thing left is dealing with the specific tasks.
The Deputy PM asked the Ministry of Transport to work with VEC to promptly submit the general plan for proceeding with the project.
