US professor honoured for contributions

Nhan Dan Online – Professor Gary Heit, a leading US neurosurgeon was presented with an insignia ‘For People’s Heath’ on October 18, for his contributions to the development of cranial neurosurgery at the central region’s Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Prof. Heit, who is currently director of Americare Neurosurgery International, has provided the university’s hospital with neurosurgical equipment worth more than US$200,000.

He also gave operations to Vietnamese patients suffering brain tumors and cranial nerve disorders whilst transferring the techniques to the staff and students of the university.

The professor pledges to continue his support and donations to the university hoping to help local staff facilitate innovative techniques in cranial neurosurgery.

Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Professor Cao Ngoc Thanh, said Professor Heit’s dedication has clearly brought practical results for the development of cranial neurosurgery at the university and has significantly contributed to human resource development within the both the faculty and region.

Professor Heit also teaches at renowned universities in the US such as Cornell, Stanford, and California and Paris Diderot University in France.
