Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Chansamon Chanhalat, Deputy Minister of Defence stressed that the victory on April 30, 1975 was not only a historical landmark for the people of Vietnam, but also had important implications for the revolution in Laos, Cambodia and other countries around the world.
The victory of the army and people of Vietnam in the fight for national liberation against the US contributed greatly to the movement of the peoples in the world for national independence, peace, democracy and social progress, as well as a great source of encouragement for other peoples in the struggle for liberation and their fight against imperialism and neo-colonialism in Indochina, as well as in the world, he noted.
Lieutenant General Chansamon Chanhalat reaffirmed that under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam has overcome countless hardships and challenges to fight against old and new colonialism, to liberate the South and reunify the country on April 30, 1975, adding achievements and victories gained by the army and people of Vietnam are always considered a source of great encouragement for Lao people in the national construction and defence cause.
On behalf of the Lao Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General Chansamon Chanhalat reiterated that the Party, State and people of Laos will continue to cooperate with the Party, State and people of Vietnam, as well as do their best to protect and promote the special friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries.
Also at the meeting, the Lao Ministry of Defence held a film screening on the victory of April 30.
The anniversary has been marked across Laos, with a number of documentary films screened exploring the war, the victory and the aftermath.
The Lao media has widely covered the events of April 1975 and hailed the achievements Vietnam has made in the four decades since.
