From October 24 to 26, 2026, Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Donald Tusk is paying an official visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. On this occasion, Ha Hoang Hai, Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland, shared with a reporter from Nhan Dan Newspaper his views on the significance of the visit.
Demonstrating the Polish Government’s high regard for Viet Nam as one of Poland’s leading partners in ASEAN
Highlighting the significance of the official visit to Viet Nam by the Polish Prime Minister, Ambassador Ha Hoang Hai said that the visit was taking place at a time when Viet Nam–Poland relations were at an exceptionally positive stage, with favourable conditions for reaching new heights following more than 75 years of diplomatic relations.
According to Ambassador Ha Hoang Hai, the visit is important across a wide range of fields, including politics, diplomacy, trade and investment, science and technology, education and training, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
First and foremost, the visit demonstrates the Polish Government’s high regard for Viet Nam, one of Poland’s priority partners in the Indo-Pacific region and one of its leading partners in ASEAN.
At the same time, the visit provides an opportunity to promote practical economic, trade and investment cooperation, improve market access conditions and remove barriers facing goods from both countries. The two sides can also take advantage of this occasion to expand cooperation into high-value-added areas such as digital technology, green energy, quantum technology and high-quality human resource training. This would enable them to leverage their complementary strengths, strengthen business connections and lay the foundations for the sustainable development of Viet Nam–Poland economic, scientific and technological relations.

Ha Hoang Hai, Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland
Ambassador Ha Hoang Hai also said that, during the current visit to Viet Nam, the two sides were expected to focus on promoting cooperation in several key areas, including economic, trade and investment cooperation, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
Economic, trade and investment cooperation is an important area that both sides have prioritised for promotion. Some objectives could include expanding and diversifying the structure of imports and exports to leverage each country’s strengths, and making effective use of the Viet Nam–EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and, subsequently, the Viet Nam–EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to create greater opportunities for businesses from both countries to expand their presence in and deepen their engagement with each other’s markets. In addition, two-way investment is being actively encouraged, alongside stronger connectivity and business cooperation, with both sides seeking to capitalise on their respective strengths and market opportunities. These efforts would help promote two-way investment flows and improve the effectiveness of Viet Nam–Poland economic cooperation.
“Against the backdrop of Poland’s efforts to diversify its partners, expand markets and strengthen its presence in the Indo-Pacific region, Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s visit to Viet Nam as part of his trip to India and Viet Nam from October 21 to 26, 2026, together with Poland’s recent official accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) in July 2026, provides a basis for Viet Nam to play its role as a gateway for Poland to strengthen its access to ASEAN markets and promote cooperation with countries across the region,” Ambassador Ha Hoang Hai emphasised.
Science and technology, education and training remain promising areas of cooperation, underpinned by a long-standing tradition and playing an important role in improving human resource quality, promoting innovation and fostering sustainable development in both countries. Both countries attach particular importance to these fields, prioritising investment in them and regarding them as key drivers of growth in their current development strategies.
Accordingly, the two sides are expected to sign a new agreement on educational cooperation and hold the third session of the Viet Nam–Poland Joint Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation during the visit. These will provide important foundations for identifying orientations, priority areas and specific measures to promote educational, training, scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries in the coming period, thereby translating cooperation potential into practical and effective programmes and projects.
Regarding tourism and people-to-people exchanges, building on the positive results achieved in recent years, particularly the increase of more than 40% over the past two years in the number of Polish tourists interested in and choosing Viet Nam as a destination, the two sides aim to strengthen cooperation, promote destinations, connect travel businesses, facilitate travel and make more effective use of the potential for tourist exchanges.
These efforts will help consolidate mutual understanding and strengthen the social foundations of bilateral relations. The national airline of Poland, LOT, is officially scheduled to resume direct flights between Ha Noi and Warsaw from April 2027, while Viet Nam’s policy granting Polish visitors visa-free stays of 45 days provides favourable conditions for both sides to promote tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, as well as step up the implementation of the action programme on economic, trade and investment cooperation.
New momentum for Viet Nam and Poland to translate high-level agreements into concrete outcomes
Ambassador Ha Hoang Hai expressed his expectation that the Polish Prime Minister’s current official visit to Viet Nam would not only build on the success of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Poland in January 2025, but also generate new momentum for both sides to translate high-level agreements into concrete outcomes, further affirming the two countries’ status as leading partners of each other in Central and Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.
In the field of economic, trade and investment cooperation, the visit will open up new opportunities for cooperation, investment and business, bringing tangible benefits to businesses and people in both countries.
In education, science and technology — traditional areas of cooperation with considerable potential and room for development — the visit will help strengthen cooperation and connections among universities, research institutes and businesses; expand scholarship programmes and exchanges of students and experts; and promote research cooperation and technology transfer. In particular, the two countries have many opportunities to advance cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, innovation, cybersecurity and green technology.
In the field of people-to-people diplomacy, the visit will help promote the robust development of cooperation in tourism, culture and education. Together with plans to establish a direct Warsaw–Ha Noi air route, these efforts will help bring the two countries closer together. The Vietnamese community in Poland, as well as generations of Vietnamese people who have studied and worked in Poland, will continue to serve as an important bridge, helping to nurture friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
