Under the agreement, the two sides will collaborate on microchip design, manufacture and human resources training, participate in joint business activities and exchange relevant information and scientific materials.
The agreement is a milestone in bringing HCMC’s microchip development programme to the international market and an opportunity to promote international cooperation in the industry, especially with Japan, a leading nation in this field.
According to Le Thai Hy, deputy head of the HCMC Integrated Circuit Industrial Development Programme, Vietnam has certain difficulties as a latecomer in this field.
Currently HCMC is Vietnam’s only city to run an IC development programme with the ICDREC as the key agency.
As such, international cooperation is a critical condition for the field’s further development in Vietnam.
After attending SEMICON Japan 2015, an exposition for the microelectronics manufacturing supply chain, the ICDREC, a research centre under the Ho Chi Minh National University, has received wide interest from Japanese partners.
