Vietnam claim top at first Vietnamese traditional martial arts world championship

The first world championship of traditional Vietnamese martial arts wrapped up after four days of competition at Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on July 29, witnessing hosts Vietnam claim the top position.

The Vietnamese delegation demonstrated superiority in both combat and performance events, winning 12 golds and one silver in performance event, and seven golds and one silver in combat event, outstripping second placed Russia with four golds, four silvers and four bronzes. France ranked third with three golds, eight silvers and three bronzes.

The first tournament left a positive impression on international guests as it was not just a competition, but also a festival for lovers of Vietnamese traditional martial arts around world.

The first-ever tournament was co-organised by the World Federation of Vietnam Vo Co Truyen (Vietnamese traditional martial arts) and the City’s Department of Culture and Sports under the slogan “Vietnam’s spirit spreads globally” aimed at further promoting Vietnamese martial arts to the world.

The four-day tournament gathered 250 martial artists from 27 countries and territories worldwide competing in five combat and performance events to win 45 sets of medals.

The event will be held every two years and the second tournament is set for Russia in 2018.
