The ships, built by the Hong Ha Shipyard, are among seven ordered by the government to strengthen the capacity of the Vietnam Coast Guard under the Resolution 72/2014/QH13 adopted by the 13th National Assembly.
The two high-speed patrol boats, coded CSB 4038 and CSB 4039, measure 54.65 metres in length, 9.3 metres in width and have a maximum speed of 14 nautical miles per hour. They can operate for 30 consecutive days within a range of 2,500 nautical miles.
Meanwhile, the CBS 7011 is the largest and most modern multi-functional and replenishment oiler of its kind to be built in Vietnam.
It is 90 meters long, 14 meters wide, and capable of operating at sea non-stop for 60 days within a range of 6,000 nautical miles.
The ship will transport oil, fuel, food, clean water, and logistical services for ships operating at sea, as well as for remote islands and platforms.
The ship will also provide support for the operation of offshore fishing boats, facilitate rescue operations and marine environment protection, and defend national sovereignty over seas and islands.
The CSB 4038 and CNS 4039 patrol ships will be assigned to the VCG of Zone 2 and Zone 4, respectively, while the CSB 7011 multi-functional vessel will be added to the fleet of the VCG of Zone 3.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony on July 14, Major General Nguyen Quang Dam, commander of the VCG, stressed that the three ships would contribute to firmly defending national sovereignty over seas and islands.
For his part, Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Minister of Defence, highly appreciated the efforts and co-ordination among relevant units in implementing the project and finishing on schedule.
He asked the VCG High Command to work closely with the Hong Ha Shipyard so that its members can master the technology, and smoothly and safely put the ships into operation.
