Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security held a workshop on cooperation and experience sharing in firefighting and search and rescue between Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in Da Nang on March 28.

The event was attended by the heads of the three country’s fire services as well as the police forces of Da Nang and 19 Vietnamese provinces bordering Laos and Cambodia.

It provided an opportunity for the three countries’ functional units and fire services in general to increase cooperation in firefighting and search and rescue activities.

At the workshop, the participants discussed the coordination mechanism for when there are fires or other incidents in border areas that require mobilisation of human resources and vehicles from international partners.

In recent times, Vietnam’s fire services have always been proactive in exercising its international responsibility in firefighting and search and rescue.

Specifically, Tay Ninh Police collaborated with Cambodia’s Svay Rieng in containing three fires during the 2017-2023 period, while Quang Tri helped fight four fires in Savannakhet, Laos, from 2014 to 2020.

The assistance of Vietnam’s firefighting units has contributed to reducing human and property losses in Laos and Cambodia and further deepening the good relationship between the three countries.
