Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh made the request at a January 7 meeting in Hanoi to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Traditional Day of Vietnamese students and pupils and the VSA (January 9, 1950-2015).

Politburo member Anh praised the outstanding achievements made by generations of students and pupils over the past 65 years, while congratulating those who received the 2014 ‘Students with Five Good Performances’ title and ‘January Star’ award 2015.

He asked the VSA to promote its role as a socio-political organisation and work with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to launch emulation movements aiming to encourage students nationwide to promote the glorious traditions of preceding generations; study and train revolutionary virtues following the ideology and morale example of President Ho Chi Minh; and pioneer voluntary activities and joint efforts for the community.

On the occasion, Politburo member Le Hong Anh and Politburo member Nguyen Thien Nhan – who is also President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee – presented the central-level 2014 ‘Students with Five Good Performances’ title to 41 outstanding students and the 2015 ‘January Star’ title to another 100, in recognition of their brilliant academic results and contributions to the students’ movements.

At the meeting, the VSA Central Committee launched an emulation period (January, 2015-2016) to welcome the 85th anniversary of the Vietnam Communist Party, the country’s major holidays and the all-level Party Congress towards the 12th National Party Congress.

The VSA currently comprises over 1,300 members who are studying and living in cities and provinces across the country and in seven overseas Vietnamese student’s associations. For its outstanding contributions, in 2010 the VSA was honoured with the Gold Star Order and many other noble awards from the Party and State.
