The hosts started out quite well when Nguyen Thi Muon helped them take the lead in the 17th minute.

This early advantage instilled confidence in the home side, which allowed them to play more comfortably.

Just eight minutes later, Nguyen Thi Kim Tien smashed a beautiful strike to double the lead for Vietnam, wrapping up the first half with the home side prevailing 2-0.

After the break, Cooke Diosano took advantage of lapses in Vietnam’s defense to pull out a goal for the Philippines in the 53rd minute.

Vietnam then intensified their offence and put pressure on the guests, hoping to earn more goals. In the 61st minute, Tran Thi Kim Hong passed the ball to Le Thu Thanh Huong who fired an unstoppable shot to raise the score to 3-0 in favour of the hosts.

Five minutes later, substitute Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung contributed one more goal for Vietnam before Cooke Diosano narrowed the gap to 2-4 for the guests during stoppage time, which ended up as the final score of the match.

Vietnam won a total of six points with this victory and officially secured an early ticket to play in the semi-finals scheduled for September 20, even though they have one more game to play.

In another Group A match the same day, Myanmar thrashed Singapore 11-0 to temporarily lead the group standings with six points, just above Vietnam thanks to a goal difference.

Vietnam will play its last group qualifier against Myanmar at Thong Nhat stadium tomorrow to decide the overall group leader.
