All five members of the Vietnamese team received awards, helping the country place fifth in the overall rankings.
Winning gold medals were Cao Ngoc Thai from Pham Boi Chau gifted high school in central Nghe An province and Do Thi Bich Hue from the gifted high school under the Hanoi-based University of Natural Science (Vietnam National University), both in the 12th grade. The other gold medal went to Vu Thanh Trung Nam, an 11th grader from the Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted High School.
Two silver medals went to Dao Phuong Khoi, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the Hanoi-based University of Natural Science, and Pham Nguyen Tuan Anh, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the Ho Chi Minh City-based National University.
This year’s competition, which took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from July 13–21, attracted the participation of 383 candidates from 84 countries and territories.
Three countries won five gold medals, and one other country secured four gold medals. Vietnam was among a group of six countries achieving three gold medals.
