Specifically, 12% of the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA)’s 87,555 flights were delayed, while the respective figures for Jetstar Pacific (JPA) and Vietjet Air (VJA) were 20.8% and 17%.
JPA and VJA operated 80,767 and 24,598 flights respectively in the January-August period.
Such figures indicate the efforts of both domestic airlines and management agencies to improve their on-time performance.
According to a representative from one carrier, recent abnormal weather conditions in southern Vietnam and heavy rains at Tan Son Nhat Airports have had a knock-on effect, causing a rise in delays due to late arrivals.
It is also forecast that cold air and fog in the northern region will affect flights over the final months of the year.
In August alone, the respective ratios of delayed flights were 14.2%, 13.4%, and 24.6% for VNA, VJA and JPA.
