Thao took the title after only 2 mins and 47 secs in the very first round of the bantamweight title fight, held in Ho Chi Minh City.
It is the second time a Vietnamese boxer has championed a world title, after Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi won the first-ever World Boxing Organisation belt, for the women's mini-flyweight title in October 2021.
