Vietnamese sprinter seizes gold at Asian Grand Prix

Vietnamese sprinter Nguyen Thi Huyen ran away with the women’s 400m gold medal in the second leg of the 2015 Asian Grand Prix series in Pathum Thani, Thailand on June 25.

Huyen achieved the fastest time, completing the event in just 52.27 seconds, 0.42 second faster than the Kazakh silver medalist Yuliya Rakhmanova, who finished first with 53.26 seconds in the first leg held in Bangkok a few days ago, in which Huyen ended up in fifth position with 54.71 seconds.

Huyen’s teammate Quach Thi Lan claimed fourth place in the same category clocking up a time of 52.75 seconds.

Tran Hue Hoa brought home an additional silver medal for Vietnam in the women’s triple jump after her commendable performance, clearing a distance of 13.75 metres.

Nguyen Thi Huyen was the stand-out performer of Vietnam’s athletics team at the recent 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, winning three gold medals, breaking one Games record and meeting the 2016 Olympics B standard in the 400m and 400m hurdles events.

Vietnam walked away with three silver medals in the first leg of competition on June 22 thanks to Do Thi Thao in the women’s 800m (2:07.38), Quach Cong Lich in the men’s 400m (46.73 seconds) and Quach Thi Lan in the women’s 400m (53.29 seconds).

The final leg of the 2015 Asian Grand Prix will take place in Chanthaburi, Thailand on June 29.
