The event featured the competition of nine football teams and clubs of Vietnamese people who are living and working in Laos.
The teams will compete for nine rounds, after which the first and second-placed teams of the groups will advance to the final round. The final match and closing ceremony of the tournament will take place on July 17.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, head of the tournament's organising committee Nguyen Van Can said that the tourney aims to provide a venue for participants to exercise while tightening the solidarity among the Vietnamese community.
He called on sponsors and benefactors to make donations to build a charity fund which will support disadvantaged people and persons with disabilities.
He announced that as part this year’s activities, the organising board will hold a meal distribution at the centre for the homeless and patients with mental illness in Vientiane.
