“Volunteer Saturday” in Naval Region 5

On March 15, thousands of officers and youth union members of agencies and units under Naval Region 5 actively participated in “Volunteer Saturday” with the theme “Youths of Naval Region 5 join hands to build new style rural areas and urban civilisation”.

Officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, Nam Can District, Ca Mau Province, and islands in the southwestern sea coordinated with youth union members, armed forces and people in the stationed area to organise “Volunteer Saturday”.

Activities included clearing bushes; dredging sewers; trimming trees that obstruct visibility; cleaning the coast and roads; peeling off and erasing leaflets, billboards, classified ads, etc. that violate regulations; collecting and sorting waste and bringing it to the treatment site; taking care of trees, flower beds and ornamental plants, and beautifying the landscape of the unit and the military area.

On this occasion, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 also coordinated with the local Youth Union and other forces to mobilise people to limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products; raise awareness of responsibility for forest fire prevention and fighting in the dry season; practice civilised urban lifestyle, protect the environment and public health.
