This is the second year in a row that Kieu Trinh has won the title and this year, with 465 points, she surpassed by far respective runners-up Le Thi Thuong (Vinacomin, 131 points) and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (Hanoi). Earlier in February, Trinh was also bestowed with the honour of being named as the best Southeast Asian female footballer at an AFF meeting in held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This is the first time Quoc Anh has won the title and caps off a splendid 2012 season at both his local football club and the national team. Anh claimed the top prize after finishing first in the poll with 257 points, trailed by Silver and Bronze Ball winners Le Tan Tai (169 points) and Nguyen Minh Phuong (110 points).
Tran Phi Son (Song Lam Nghe An) won the ‘best young player’ award while the women’s title went to Chuong Thi Kieu (HCM City). SHB Da Nang’s Argentine striker Gaston Merlo was once again honoured with the ‘best foreign player’ prize.
The Golden, Silver and Bronze Ball winners received respective cash prizes of VND40 million (US$1,920), 30 million (US$1,440) and 20 million (US$960), while the best young players and the best foreign player took home VND20 million each.
