The construction project includes the Hung Ha Bridge with a length of over 2.1km and two approaching roads with a total length of over 4km.
The bridge begins at highway No.39 in Phuong Chieu commune, Hung Yen city and ends at Bac Ly commune, in Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province.
The reinforced concrete bridge is 22.5m wide with six lanes and is estimated to cost over VND2.87 trillion (US$126.28 million) including over VND2.46 trillion (US$108.24 million) lent from the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the remaining amount funded by the Vietnamese government.
The project will be managed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport whilst technical consultancy, supervision and construction work will be performed by RoK contractors.
The project will be completed after 30 months, which will enhance the transport capacity of the two major national highways and stimulate the socio-economic development of the Red River Delta region. At the same time, the project will contribute to easing traffic pressure on the highways No.1 and No.5 as well as in Hanoi city.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Deputy PM Hai stressed that the Vietnamese government has paid special attention to investing in transport projects over the past five years and will continue to give priority to transport infrastructure projects which will help promote the national socio-economic development.
He also thanked the RoK government for their financial assistance to the Hung Ha Bridge project along with many other transport projects including Vinh Thinh, Vam Cong and Thinh Long Bridges and Lo Te-Rach Soi road among others.
