Singapore's ruling People's Action Party (PAP) secured a commanding mandate in Saturday's general election, winning 65.57 percent of the popular vote, according to official results released early Sunday.

* Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has been discharged from the Military Medical Academy (VMA) and has suspended his official activities until he recovers, Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali said on Sunday.

* Romanians headed to the polls on Sunday for the first round of the presidential election rerun contested by 11 candidates.

* Jean-Lucien Savi de Tove was elected by the Togolese parliament on Saturday as the West African country's new president, said the president's office. He will succeed Faure Gnassingbe, who was sworn in earlier on Saturday as the President of Togo's Council of Ministers.

* Libya's eastern-based House of Representatives speaker, Aguila Saleh, called on Saturday for the swift creation of a unified government, warning that the prolonged political crisis could further destabilize the country unless immediate action is taken.

* Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Russia from May 7 to 10 and attend the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Sunday.

* India on Saturday announced a ban on all imports from Pakistan, saying the restriction was imposed "in the interest of national security and public policy." Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following a deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam in the Indian-controlled Kashmir on April 22.

* Kim Jong Un, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), visited an important tank factory, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Sunday.

* Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has postponed his planned visit to Azerbaijan, said a statement from his office on Saturday. Netanyahu's visit was scheduled to begin on Wednesday and last five days.

* A missile launched by Yemen's Houthi forces struck Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport on Sunday, injuring two people and causing damage, the Israeli military and local authorities said.

* Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) appointed Finance Minister Salem Saleh Bin Braik as the country's new prime minister on Saturday, following the resignation of Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak.

* At least 300 people were killed in attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the city of Al-Nuhood in West Kordofan State, southwestern Sudan, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

* Tanzania and Malawi on Friday ended their trade standoff after bilateral discussions that reaffirmed a shared commitment to strengthening trade, fostering economic cooperation, and resolving existing issues.

* The Shwedagon Pagoda, also known as the Golden Pagoda in Myanmar, attracted over 2.5 million visitors in the first four months of this year, U Boe Thin, a member of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, told Xinhua on Sunday.

* The clearance of buildings damaged by the massive earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28 is approximately 80 percent complete in Mandalay and about 50 percent complete in Sagaing, state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Sunday.
