UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday reiterated his call for irreversible progress toward a two-state solution, in a message on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

* Early parliamentary elections began in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday to elect 90 deputies to the country's unicameral legislature. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan reported that 2,492 polling stations have opened across the country, along with 27 remote voting stations and 100 polling stations abroad.

* The top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said on Friday that the Korean People's Army (KPA) air force "will be given new strategic military assets and entrusted with a new important duty," the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Sunday.

* The African Union (AU) Commission has suspended Guinea-Bissau from the pan-African bloc until constitutional order is restored following the country's sudden military takeover.

* Guinea-Bissau's transitional president, Horta Inta-A, appointed members of the new cabinet on Saturday. According to a statement from the Presidency's Office of Communication and Public Relations, the new government consists of 23 ministries and five secretariats of state.

* The Venezuelan government on Saturday denounced the U.S. threat that "seeks to affect the sovereignty of its airspace," calling it "another extravagant, illegal and unjustified aggression against the Venezuelan people."

* The Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 2023 has risen to 70,100, Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Saturday.

* Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Sunday slammed U.S. President Donald Trump's statement that the airspace around Venezuela should be considered closed.

* Israeli military drones were seen over Beit Jinn in southwestern Damascus on Saturday night, marking the latest in a series of Israeli maneuvers along Syria's border, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

* Malaysia will develop a new port in Johor state with an eye on strengthening its maritime logistics competitiveness and supply chain resilience, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Saturday.

* The People's Bank of China, China's central bank, stated that the country will maintain prohibitive policies regarding virtual currency trading and will continue to crack down on related illegal financial activities in an effort to safeguard the security of people's property.

* Afghanistan has exported 645 tonnes of pine nuts valued at around 9 million USD over the past eight months, local media reported on Sunday.

* A total of 303 people died and 279 remain missing after flash floods and landslides struck three provinces in Indonesia's Sumatra region, the country's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said on Saturday.

* Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center (DMC) on Saturday evening said 153 people have died due to floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah. A total of 191 people are still missing as search and relief operations intensify across multiple districts, the DMC said.

* Authorities Saturday issued a red alert in the coastal areas of India's Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry as cyclonic storm Ditwah brought heavy rains, officials said.

* Romania's hydrology authorities have issued an orange flood alert for parts of the south on Saturday, warning of severe flooding risk due to heavy rainfall and rising river levels. Homes and key infrastructure could be threatened, and some areas are under their second high-level warning in 24 hours.
