Nepal's former chief justice Sushila Karki took office as the prime minister of the interim government on Friday evening following KP Sharma Oli's resignation on Tuesday. Karki was appointed to the post by President Ram Chandra Poudel and then she was sworn in by the president in the presence of foreign envoys and others.

* Voting has begun in regional and municipal elections across Russia, with about 55 million citizens eligible to cast ballots, Russia's Central Election Commission (CEC) said Friday. From Friday to Sunday, more than 5,000 elections are being held nationwide. Voters will elect governors, regional legislative assemblies and municipal councils.
