At the event, Yen Bai leaders called on the people to participate in the protection and restoration of fishery resources and conserve the ecosystem.

For their part, the Buddhist sangha encouraged organisations and individuals to conduct animal releases and reduce the spread of invasive species.

The agriculture department and the Buddhist sangha also signed a memorandum of understanding on activities to restore and protect fishery stocks in the province.

After the launch ceremony, the delegates and people released more than 1.1 tonnes of juvenile fish, including common carp, grass carp and rohu, into the Red River.
