Vien clocked the best time of 16:56.55 in the women’s 1,500m event, overcoming Himathongkom Ammiga of Thailand (17:34.51) and Ming Yu Claudia of Hong Kong (17:50.29).
Vien also bagged two more silver medals on the same day in the 200m butterfly and 100m backstroke.
The last day of competition also witnessed Huynh Man Dat and Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram grab two additional gold medals for Vietnam in the men’s 200m butterfly and the women’s 200m butterfly respectively in the 10-14 year old age group.
Earlier on October 3, Vien increased her gold medal tally to six, finishing first in the 100m freestyle (56.96 seconds), 400m medley and 50m backstroke (29.63 seconds) events. Teammate Tran Duy Khoi also managed to secure his third gold medal in the tournament after winning the men’s 400m medley event of the 18 years and above age division.
Vietnam’s swimming team wrapped up four days of competition in Thailand with a grand collection of 15 gold medals, including seven by Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, three by Tran Duy Khoi, three by Huynh Man Dat and two by Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram.
Nguyen Thi Anh Vien will fly to the Republic of Korea today to compete in the 6th CISM Military World Games from October 7-10 as the only Vietnamese swimmer participating.
