Director of the reserve management board Diep Van Chinh said the porcupines were detected and seized during a raid on May 16.

The Asiatic brush-tailed porcupine (Atherurus macrourus) is a species of rodent in the family Hystricidae. It is found in China, Bhutan, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Covering more than 46,700 hectares in the five border communes of Sin Thau, Leng Su Sin, Chung Chai, Muong Nhe and Nam Ke, the reserve is home to 450 species of fauna, of which nearly 100 are listed in the Red Book.
