After 15 games, Liem finished at number 6, becoming one of the eight players who qualified for the knockout stage.

In the quarterfinal round, the Vietnamese chess grandmaster will play against the 19-year-old American Hans Moke Niemann, who is facing allegations of cheating.

The Julius Baer Generation Cup is the 7th of nine events on the 1.6 million USD 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour and takes place online from September 18-25.
