“Taste of the Sea” runs from May 22 to 24, featuring a range of activities including culinary demonstrations and hands-on cooking experiences with local dishes, programmes introducing traditional craft villages, and cultural performances by the local community, including Bai Choi singing.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the sea not only provides livelihoods but also shapes the city’s identity.
She added that everything from the rhythm of life in fishing villages and the sight of fishing boats returning at dawn, to time-honoured dishes rich in the flavour of the sea, has contributed to the distinctive culture of Da Nang’s coastal communities: sincere, generous, and vibrant.
She stressed that holding the festival in southern Da Nang reflects the city’s tourism development strategy, which aims not only to focus on the central area but also to gradually extend tourism development to southern parts of the city.
This approach is expected to effectively harness the region’s marine, cultural, and community resources to create new destinations with a strong sense of place and distinctive visitor experiences.
Deputy Director An said the festival will not only help boost Da Nang’s profile but also drive growth in the service sector, improve local livelihoods, and extend tourism benefits to more communities across the region.
