20th Century Music Concert Series: Concert No.3

The concert series introduces compositions from the 20th and 21st centuries by important living or deceased world-famous composers: a stage of unlimited creativity, rich and extremely diverse musical colors and compositional techniques. The performers are soloists and lecturers at the music academy and at the Inspirito School of Music.
The third programme in the concert series “20th Century Music” offers various musical styles and languages from different countries. You will hear compositions by two major names from the 20th century, Paul Hindemith (Germany) and Igor Stravinsky (Russia). Reminiscence of Soviet jazz will be heard via the recently deceased Nikolay Kapustin (Russia). Closer to our generation and very active in international music are compositions by Fazil Say (Turkey), Sheila Silver (USA) and a strong new voice of contemporary compositions from Vietnam: Pho Duc Hoang.

There is a particular vitality in Asian countries, linked to lifestyle transformation and an “everything is possible” mindset. Far from the usual Asian iconography, the creative duo Punk Dragon infuses this energy in its creative process. Each of their artworks tells a story through cut-outs and superposed pictures. Combining photography, design, and local craft, this exhibition opens the door to the magic in everyday surroundings.
“The time has come to rekindle the stars” is about hope, dreams, and inspiration. The occasion to take a break for an instant, escape from reality, and reflect on daily life’s enchantments.

This exhibition features the work of eight photographers from eight different European countries. Each series was selected by the respective cultural department of their national representation, with the goal of introducing artworks capable of delivering a different perspective on standpoints and values, in the hope of bridging cultural gaps.
Taken in Vietnam and foreign places, these works lead the audience down unexpected paths, introduce us to other people’s lives, and to ideas that may seem distant. As a result, there is a space for us to ponder and debate.

Vin Gallery proudly presents ‘Full of Surprises’, a multimedia installation by artist duo Andrea Orejarena & Caleb Stein. Drawing on a two-year collaboration with veterans and younger descendants affected by chemical weapons used by the U.S during the Vietnam-America war, this constellation of images blurs the lines between memory and reality, and challenges traditional barriers between subject and author.
Their photographs primarily focus on a group of teenagers over a two-year period at Làng Hữu Nghị. These photos were not made as a document or directive, but rather as an intimate choreography between the subjects and the artist duo, and, at times, the subjects drew directly from the photographs.

‘Home: Looking inwards to the outer world’ features a selection of artworks arising from an initiative begun in March 2020 by The Factory, at the onset of COVID-19.
‘Home: Looking inwards to the outer world’ includes drawings, paintings, videos, poetry, and installations; accompanied by audio from the artists who share private monologues on their ideas, and video documentation of private musical performances held during the first year of the pandemic.
