Experts receive French Academic Palms Order

French ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Poirier presented the French Order of Academic Palms to Nguyen Thanh Huyen, former Vice Director of the Department of International Relations, under the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), and Pro. Nguyen Huu Duc, Vice President of the National University in Hanoi at (NUH) a ceremony in Hanoi on October 23.

The honoured individuals were recognised by the French Republic for their contributions to educational and scientific co-operation between France and Vietnam.

Huyen began her career in 1982 when she was a French teacher at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. At her post at the MOET since 2004, she has worked as a partner of the French Embassy in Hanoi in educational co-operation and French promotion activities. She continues to make further contributions to bilateral educational co-operation through a project at the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH).

Pro. Duc is a nano expert and an important contributor to scientific co-operation between France and Vietnam. He graduated from the NUH in 1980 and held many important posts at the university. He has conducted numerous scientific exchanges with French universities in Grenoble, Rouen and Paris Sud, and founded and hosted various training and research co-operative programmes between France and Vietnam.

The Academic Palms Order is an honourary title established in 1808 by Napoleon I to recognise outstanding individuals in tertiary education. It has been extended to those who make important contributions to enriching cultural heritage, scientific, intellectual, and art development of France around the world.
