Statistics from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association showed that Vietnam earned over 4.1 billion USD in fruit and vegetable export revenue in the first three quarters of 2023, exceeding the whole-year figure of 3.34 billion USD in 2022 and outdoing the record high of 3.81 billion USD in 2018.
In September alone, it is anticipated that Vietnam will reap 587 million USD from fruit and vegetable exports, a sharp increase of 33.4% over the same period of last year. During the nine-month period, an export revenue of over 4.1 billion USD was reported, a dramatic rise of 69.1% over the same period in 2022.
Durian, banana, and dragon fruit have made significant contributions to the export growth of fruit and vegetables. Notably, durian moved up from fourth place to become the leading export fruit, surpassing banana and dragon fruit to join the billion-dollar export revenue group. Durian exports are forecast to reach 1.5 billion USD next month.
Vietnam’s leading fruit import markets include China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Thailand, and Australia, with China being the largest import market of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable.
The value of fruit and vegetable exports to China was posted at 2.3 billion USD in the first eight months of 2023, up 134% over the same period last year.
