Hanoi youth’s attachment towards Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Anyone who came to bid farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Funeral Hall or in his hometown in Lai Da Village, Dong Hoi Commune, Dong Anh District in Hanoi, could confirm that youth volunteers had provided enthusiastic and effective support to the State funeral of the Party chief.

During the two-day State funeral, youth volunteers in blue shirts, drenched in sweat, still enthusiastically provided instructions, and delivered water to the long lines of people who came to pay respect to the Party leader.

“We are very thankful for the support of young volunteers during our time waiting to pay respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,” said elders who travelled from Ha Nam Province to the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi, to pay homage to the beloved leader.

Nguyen Van Phuong from Dan Phuong District in Hanoi said the beautiful actions of young people serving at the State funeral warmed his heart.

Le Thi Hoa from Ninh Binh Province said she had to leave home at midnight to be on time for the visit. Although she felt tired due to carsickness, she received enthusiastic support from the young volunteers, who gave her and other waiting people drinks, paper fans and snacks.

The function at the National Funeral House attracted the participation of around 1,500 youth volunteers, who coordinated with security forces to serve the two-day State funeral.

Volunteers carry out tasks at four main areas, including the National Funeral Hall located at No 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, the General Secretary's private house at Lai Da Village, Mai Dich Cemetery and on the streets scheduled for the funeral procession during the two days of the national funeral.

According to the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Dong Hoi Commune, soon after being informed about Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing on July 19, the local youth union mobilised youth volunteers to support and guide delegations and people, coming to pay their respects to the late Party leader.

Every day, more than 100 local young people volunteered to serve at the State funeral in Lai Da Village.

Meanwhile, the function at the National Funeral House attracted the participation of around 1,500 youth volunteers, who coordinated with security forces to serve the two-day State funeral, reported Nguyen Tien Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City’ Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Chairman of the Hanoi City Students’ Association.

Among the mourners, many elders and children need support. Young volunteers serving the funeral promptly delivered free drinking water and snacks to ensure the health of people coming to pay respect to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Tien Hung shared.

The young volunteers also participated in ensuring traffic order and environmental sanitation.

Serving at a checkpoint in Hang Chuoi Street, Vu Thi Mai, a student from the Foreign Trade University shared that with love and respect for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, she and other volunteers worked at 100% of their capacity, willing to support people regardless of rainy or hot weather.

“It is our honour to serve people during the State funeral of the Party General Secretary,” she said.

Serving at the National Funeral Hall, student Nguyen Van Dung, from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, recalled his grief when hearing the news of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

“Although I had not met the Party leader in person, through the stories and news reported via the mass media, I have great respect and admiration for him,” Dung said.

After hearing about the announcement for volunteer recruitment to serve at the State funeral for the late Party leader, he quickly registered for participation and was lucky enough to be approved.

While watching the hearse carrying the coffin of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong leaving the National Funeral Hall for Mai Dich Cemetery, Dung expressed his hope that the late Party leader will rest in peace, vowing that he and the Vietnamese younger generation will follow the Party chief’s example and make further contributions to the national development.
