Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on December 26, Luong Thanh Nghi, Deputy Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Foreign Minister, said that the programme aims to bring together Overseas Vietnamese across the world, and strengthen solidarity among the OVs and people in the homeland, thus contributing to realising the Party and State's guidelines and policies in consolidating the nation's strength of unity.
It also seeks to inspire pride of national identity and traditional cultural values among Vietnamese community abroad.
This year’s event will include a string of activities, including an incense offering to national ancestors, a ceremony to pray for peace for the nation, the release of carps at Do temple in Bac Ninh province, a meeting with outstanding OVs, and a scrumptious food festival.
An arts exchange will also be staged on the occasion, featuring performances by artists who have established their fame abroad, such as Ngo Hong Quang, Le Nguyen, Alex Tran and Hoang My.
In addition, a photo exhibition entitled ‘Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago in OVs’ hearts’ will be held at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi from January 15 to 17 as part of the programme to help raise the love for the country’s seas and islands among expats.
