In Pictures: Vietnamese attire festival honours values of cultural heritages
As part of the Thang Long Cultural Festival, an Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) Parade was held at the pedestrian space around Hoan Kiem Lake on November 15, featuring around 1,400 participants.
The parade vividly recreates the system of traditional Vietnamese costumes, researched, collected and meticulously restored by groups dedicated to ancient attire.
The participants, resplendent in traditional colours, moved along streets around Hoan Kiem Lake and the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square area from 2pm to 5pm, creating a lively cultural atmosphere in Ha Noi’s autumn light.
At the same time, the Ha Noi Municipal Department of Tourism launched the double-decker bus tour “Touching Ha Noi’s Autumn”, offering visitors a new experience of the capital amid the radiant presence of Ao Dai along the streets.
The event continued to spread love for the traditional Ao Dai while honouring the values of this national intangible cultural heritage.
The Vietnamese attire festival gathers nearly 800 participants dressed in restored garments, five-panel Ao Dai and other forms of traditional Vietnamese clothing.
The costumes of Viet Nam’s 54 ethnic groups show the spirit of 80 years of “Independence – Freedom – Happiness”. A young participant beam proudly in ethnic costume. Through the programme, Ha Noi’s tourism sector aims to honour and promote the intangible cultural heritage of the Ao Dai, while fostering and spreading the cultural values that the Vietnamese Ao Dai represents. ASEAN countries’ traditional costumes are shown to celebrate 30 years of Viet Nam’s accession to ASEAN.
Each costume group corresponds to a specific theme, presented either by style or by function. The programme shares the passion and achievements of Ha Noi’s community dedicated to researching, collecting and applying ancient Vietnamese traditional dress. Many people join the event freely with their own costumes, marching at the rear of the parade. The parade concludes the vibrant series of events of the Ha Noi Tourism Ao Dai Festival.
The programme brings Vietnamese attire closer to both local residents and visitors.
