Jordan – A promising destination for Vietnamese businesses

Located in the heart of the Middle East, to the southeast of the Mediterranean, Jordan experiences hot and dusty summers and cold, dry winters. Although not blessed with abundant natural resources and often facing challenges caused by regional geopolitical instability, Jordan has made consistent efforts to introduce policies aimed at stimulating economic growth.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Jordan’s economy has begun to recover. In June 2022, the country announced a ten-year strategy titled “Economic Modernisation Vision”, which aims to double its GDP to 82 billion USD by 2033. To achieve this goal, Jordan seeks to boost exports, attract investment, address obstacles in the private sector, and reform administration through 366 initiatives across 35 sectors.

Viet Nam and Jordan established diplomatic relations on August 9, 1980. In recent years, the two countries have maintained close coordination and mutual support at international forums and organisations. Bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reached nearly 190 million USD, of which Viet Nam’s exports accounted for over 95% (approximately 181 million USD), mainly comprising agricultural products, seafood, electronics and consumer goods. Viet Nam’s main imports from Jordan include textiles, fertilisers and chemicals.

Both sides are striving to raise bilateral trade to 500 million USD by 2030 and 1 billion USD by 2035. With significant potential for cooperation in the Halal sector, the two countries have focused on strengthening exchanges in human resource training, production, processing, packaging, distribution and mutual recognition of Halal certificates.

In addition, Viet Nam and Jordan can expand cooperation in education and training, particularly in developing high-quality human resources in information technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and green energy. As attractive destinations with world-renowned heritage sites in their respective regions, both countries also see great potential for tourism cooperation. In Jordan – home to numerous ancient relics and wonders – the Petra World Heritage Site, regarded as one of humanity’s most precious cultural treasures, promises to be a dream destination for many Vietnamese travellers.

Jordan in particular, and the Middle East in general, represent promising markets for Vietnamese enterprises. As of the end of September 2025, Jordan had five valid investment projects in Viet Nam, with a total registered capital of 1 million USD, ranking 108th out of 153 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam. However, significant potential and complementary strengths between the two sides remain untapped.

According to Nguyen Thanh Diep, Viet Nam’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and concurrently accredited to Jordan, Vietnamese businesses should prioritise investment in sectors that match regional demand and have strong potential, such as agriculture, food, Halal production, fisheries, construction materials, consumer goods, textiles, renewable energy, logistics, information technology, and skilled labour. To operate effectively in this region, enterprises need to gain a sound understanding of Islamic culture and local business customs, while strengthening promotion activities, enhancing their market presence, and participating in major trade fairs to seek reliable partners.

During recent high-level meetings, Jordan has highly appreciated Viet Nam’s remarkable progress and expressed its desire to enhance cooperation across political, economic and social spheres. Both sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges at all levels, especially at the high level, to foster political trust, and to consider negotiating and signing several cooperation agreements on trade and investment.

Viet Nam is ready to cooperate in agriculture and assist Jordan in ensuring food security, as well as in digital transformation, while Jordan hopes to expand collaboration in science and technology and human resource training.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Jordan (August 9, 1980 –2025), an important milestone for both countries to assess their cooperation potential and explore new opportunities for partnership.
