The festival, locally known as General Hoang Bay Temple Festival, is observed every year to commemorate General Hoang Bay, who had significant contributions to safeguarding the country against foreign invaders in the 18th century.

This year’s festival is being held from August 4 to 20 with various activities, including a palanquin procession, an incense offering ceremony, folk games, an agriculture fair, a football tournament, and a volleyball contest.

The highlights of the festival include a votive paper making festival on August 18, which is expected to attract the participation of 10 teams from the communes of Bao Ha, Kim Son and Cam Con; and a special art programme entitled ‘Bao Ha – A Sacred Land’ on the evening of August 19.

Located in Bao Ha Commune, Bao Ha Temple was recognised as a national historical and cultural site in 1997. The temple’s festival gained recognition as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2016.

The festival aims to advertise culture and tourism potentials of Bao Yen District, as well as Lao Cai Province in general, to visitors both at home and abroad.
