Long Thanh Airport construction accelerates to meet completion target

Since the launch of a 180-day campaign to accelerate the construction of Long Thanh International Airport, the Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV) has maintained a rigorous focus on project management, progress monitoring, resource mobilisation, and construction coordination across the site.

Accelerating towards the finish line

According to ACV, the total value of work completed under Component Project 3 of Long Thanh Airport has reached approximately 65.602 trillion VND (2.5 billion USD), equivalent to 75.97% of the total contracted value.

For the main construction packages alone, the cumulative value of completed work has exceeded 56.341 trillion VND, representing 67.93% of the contract value. This marks an increase of 3.35 percentage points compared with early June 2026, indicating that construction has continued to gather pace since the launch of the acceleration campaign.

The construction site is currently maintaining an average workforce of more than 7,300 workers, an increase of around 4.54% compared with the beginning of the campaign.

ACV has continued to direct contractors to review their construction capacity, reinforce manpower, equipment, and materials, and strengthen administrative support teams responsible for documentation and project records, ensuring that all works are executed in a coordinated manner, from on-site construction to inspection, acceptance, and quality management.

One of the most significant recent achievements has been the installation of the project’s power supply. On June 9, ACV, in coordination with Dong Nai Power Company, successfully energised the PWR-ACV power receiving station from the 110kV substation via six 22kV medium-voltage feeders.

The successful energisation now provides the electrical supply required for the project’s operational needs, supporting construction, equipment installation, testing, and technical operations.

Meanwhile, three contract packages under Component Project 3 are substantially complete, including Contract Package 2.4 for construction of the airport boundary fence within the 1,810-hectare site; Contract Package 3.4 covering site levelling, drainage works, surveys, and detailed construction design; and Contract Package 5.6 for foundation piling of the passenger terminal.

ACV continues to coordinate the remaining contract packages in order of priority, ensuring compatibility with the project’s sequential construction schedule and overall operational integration.

For the airport’s internal transport and technical infrastructure, including Contract Package 4.8 covering construction, equipment installation, and detailed design for internal roads and associated systems, ACV has intensified supervision of each construction zone, work category, and interface with related contract packages.

This package covers a wide range of works directly related to the airport’s internal road network, technical corridors, electricity supply, water supply and drainage systems, viaducts, utility buildings, and ancillary facilities. It therefore plays a critical role in ensuring the overall integration of the project’s systems and infrastructure.

As of mid-June 2026, completed work under Contract Package 4.8 stood at approximately 6.857 trillion VND out of a total contract value of around 11.066 trillion VND, representing 61.97% completion.

Construction activities under this package are advancing in line with the overall coordination plan, with priority given to areas requiring complex technical integration, internal transport links, and ancillary infrastructure, all of which demand close coordination among contractors.

Regarding site handover, utilities infrastructure, transport connections, and coordination between contract packages, ACV continues to work closely with contractors, supervision consultants, and relevant agencies to resolve matters on a zone-by-zone basis.

Coordination milestones are tracked in line with detailed construction schedules, actual site conditions, and the project’s overall operational integration requirements.

Preparing for the rainy season

In the months ahead, the project area will enter the peak rainy season in southeastern Viet Nam, which is expected to affect outdoor construction activities, technical infrastructure works, and the transportation of materials and equipment.

To address this, ACV, together with the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, contractors, supervision consultants, and relevant parties, has developed contingency plans and adjusted construction schedules in line with actual weather conditions.

Alongside the deployment of manpower, equipment, and materials, the parties involved have also strengthened occupational safety measures, sustained continuous construction operations, and minimised weather-related disruptions.

As the project owner of Component Project 3, ACV considers the 180-day intensive campaign a decisive period for completing the critical works of Phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport.

Accordingly, ACV, in coordination with the Project Management Board, will continue to maintain a close on-site presence, strengthen inspections, coordinate resources, promptly resolve emerging issues, and require contractors to dedicate maximum effort to ensuring construction progress, quality, safety, and the project’s overall integration.

Located in Dong Nai, Long Thanh is designed to become a modern international airport, serving as one of Viet Nam’s principal aviation gateways and eventually emerging as a major regional air transport hub. Under the master plan, the airport will meet ICAO Category 4F standards, with a total capacity of 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo annually once fully completed. During the first phase, the airport will have an annual capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo.
