On the Tri Thien battlefield, small-scale activities were intensified across the battlefield from March 5 to 7.
On the Central Highlands battlefield, Company 7 of Battalion 2, Regiment 48, Division 320 captured the Chu Di Re high point (south of Thuan Man) on the morning of March 7, eliminating an enemy platoon.
On the Duc Lap front, the plan to attack Duc Lap had been basically completed by the afternoon of March 7 and was approved by the commanders of the 10th Division of the Central Highlands Front. Meanwhile, Regiment 148 of Division 316 approached Buon Ma Thuot.
On the Tri Thien battlefield, small-scale activities were accelerated across the battlefield from March 5 to 7, such as ambushing enemy convoys on major transportation routes and increasing pressure on the enemy along the border.
Accordingly, Infantry Battalion 21 ambushed an enemy convoy on the Hai Van Pass, blocking the transportation line; Special Forces Company 25 destroyed An Lo Bridge on Highway 1, 25 km from Hue, to prevent enemy transport from Hue to Quang Tri; Battalion 8 of Quang Tri, along with local guerrillas, besieged the enemy at point 367 and Ong Do Cave; the artillery of the Military Region continuously bombarded Hamlet 5, the Dong Lam base, and Phu Bai Airport.
During the nights of March 5-7, more than 3,000 soldiers from local battalions in Tri-Thien, two special forces battalions, over 100 armed teams, and local armed forces, along with political forces, unexpectedly breached the outer defence system of the enemy and infiltrated the lowlands and key areas safely.
On the same day, the General Political Department issued Directive No. 02/CT-H on political work for units on the battlefield, outlining the common tasks and key requirements to be achieved: “Thoroughly grasp the revolutionary situation and tasks, especially the new situation of the southern revolution; strongly promote the winning spirit; raise the combat determination of the troops; enhance political and ideological awareness, organisational capacity, and working style; and improve the quality of party and youth organisations, focusing on party committees and cadres, contributing to achieving the greatest victories.”
