Representatives of the Can Tho National Assembly delegation briefed voters on the expected agenda and programme of the upcoming session.
Voters praised the delegation’s role and raised a number of issues concerning local development and people’s livelihoods. They called for greater support in implementing central-level resolutions on Can Tho, enabling the city to achieve rapid and sustainable growth and strengthen its role as a regional growth hub.
They also called for more diverse forms of voter engagement and urged authorities to build a contingent of officials who remain close to local communities and are responsive to people’s concerns.
Other issues raised included shortages of textbooks at the beginning of the new school year, shortcomings in implementing Government Decree No. 178 on policies for officials following administrative restructuring, policies for grassroots officials after mergers, the digitisation of land records and data, and measures to ensure public security and traffic safety.
Can Tho authorities also briefed voters on the city’s socio-economic performance during the first nine months of 2026 and responded to their concerns.
Speaking at the meeting, Politburo member Nguyen Duy Ngoc praised Can Tho’s socio-economic development, particularly the significant progress made in disbursing public investment funds during the third quarter.
Regarding concerns over cybersecurity and creating a safe online environment for young people, he said the National Assembly was continuing to review and amend relevant regulations to promote more effective and secure use of cyberspace, while strengthening the responsibilities of families and other stakeholders.
He said shortcomings in implementing Decree No. 178 were being reviewed and addressed by the Government and Ministry of Home Affairs, while Decree No. 154 on policies for grassroots officials was also being considered for adjustment to better reflect practical circumstances.
On textbook shortages, he said the Government had taken decisive measures and supplies were now largely sufficient. Work was under way to complete a common set of textbooks, with a roadmap towards providing textbooks free of charge to pupils.
He also asked the Can Tho police director to take stronger measures to ensure traffic safety, particularly addressing illegal exhaust modifications and speeding, as raised by voters.
