In fact, education regarding history, culture, and sovereignty in the digital era must equip young people with the skills to search for and verify information, as well as to share accurate knowledge with the community.
In reality, content about history, culture and sovereignty on social media always attracts users' attention. It is shared and discussed in many languages and quickly reaches people around the world. Articles, comments and diverse viewpoints, ranging from well-founded information to unverified and inaccurate information, affect the perceptions of Vietnamese people every day, particularly young people. At the same time, algorithms and the operating practices of service providers also influence the distribution and accessibility of such content.
In the conclusion notice of General Secretary and President To Lam on the results of one year of implementing Politburo Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025 on breakthroughs in education and training development (Notice No. 160-TB/VPTW dated August 29, 2026, issued by the Party Central Committee Office), emphasises the need to better fulfill the requirements for comprehensive education in morality, intellect, physical fitness and aesthetics, with particular attention to ethics, character, physical and mental health, culture, history, the arts, and national pride. Within this framework, historical and cultural knowledge must be present in the digital spaces that young people use every day, with accurate and easily accessible information.
From a technological perspective, it is also essential to accelerate the development of social media platforms created by Vietnamese people, proactively distribute content and provide domestic and international audiences with accurate information about history, culture and sovereignty based on sources of well-founded materials. Mastering technology and data is both a requirement for digital capability and a requirement for ensuring national sovereignty in cyberspace.
Viet Nam is currently developing the National Data Centre system, as well as a national integrated database and specialised databases. In this process, data sources need to be connected with materials held by archives, research institutes, libraries, museums, and schools. Royal administrative documents, historical texts, archival materials, images, artefacts, maps and other materials, once digitised and standardised their information on origins, provenance and legal value, will contribute to forming a digital repository of historical knowledge for research and dissemination in ways suited to the digital environment. This knowledge repository will provide a basis for young people in Viet Nam and international audiences to access, verify, and gain an accurate understanding of Viet Nam's history, culture, and sovereignty.
In the context of digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence (AI), history education also needs to renew teaching and learning methods to suit the new environment for receiving knowledge. At every level of education, greater emphasis should be placed on knowledge of Viet Nam's history, culture, and sovereignty, while developing the ability to select and evaluate information in cyberspace. In addition, content creation should become a new method of learning history. Schools should guide and encourage students to make use of source materials and communicate knowledge through videos, interactive maps, and other formats suited to the digital environment. This process will help develop independent thinking, creativity, and the responsible use of AI, while also spreading historical knowledge throughout the community.
In light of the requirement to protect national sovereignty in cyberspace, history education must increasingly be connected with the knowledge environment that young people access and share every day. In addition to knowledge, they need to develop the ability to resist being led by inaccurate information, know how to use reliable evidence to challenge claims, defend their views and strongly convey Viet Nam's voice on digital platforms.
