Speaking at the ceremony, Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Mass Mobilisation, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists' Association, said that the idea of building the “Net Zero Viet Nam” information page has been cherished for a long time, with the preparation and implementation process lasting nearly two years.
The project has received close coordination from the former Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and assigned the Ministry's Office and the Department of Climate Change as the units directly implementing it with Nhan Dan Newspaper.
"The Net Zero Viet Nam information page is not only a communication product, but also an important milestone for the journey towards the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. This is regarded as one of the longest-term policy communication programs that Nhan Dan Newspaper has ever implemented - lasting 25 years, from now until 2050", Comrade Le Quoc Minh emphasised.
“Net Zero Viet Nam” is designed as a dynamic and attracting data journalism platform, providing official information to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of greenhouse gases along with solutions to reduce emissions and remove CO₂ from the atmosphere; and to highlight efforts in improving legal frameworks, effective initiatives, and successful experiences on Viet Nam’s journey toward Net Zero.
The page features eight sections: legal framework; action and challenges; good experience and models; world; green enterprises; handbook; expert opinions; and multimedia. Of these, five sections are displayed on the navigation bar, while the remaining three are positioned on the homepage to enhance reader interaction.
Legal Framework: updating national policies and strategies, and action plans of the government, ministries, and sectors related to Net Zero; analysis of international commitments and legal impacts on businesses and society.
Action and challenges: reflecting the activities of ministries, sectors, localities, and enterprises in emission reduction; and providing information on carbon markets as well as financial, technological, and policy difficulties.
Good experience and models: introducing effective models and initiatives, and successful lessons in domestic and international sustainable development.
World: updating on solutions, technologies, and policies on emission reduction in the global scale.
Green enterprises: honouring pioneering businesses in green transformation.
Handbook: A short and easy-to-understand Q&A system on climate change and net zero emissions, compiled by the Department of Climate Change under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Expert opinions: analysing and criticising policies, sharing experts’ perspectives on climate, energy, and green economy.
Multimedia: introducing new technologies, typical projects, visual stories, and community initiatives towards green development.
A unique highlight of the page is the interactive game “Your Carbon Footprint”, allowing readers to estimate their monthly greenhouse gas emissions using a model developed by greenhouse gas inventory experts. The tool serves both educational and recreational purposes, helping individuals to better understand their role and responsibility in emission reduction.
With its modern approach and rich content, the “Net Zero Viet Nam” information page is expected to spread proactive and creative spirit, inspire social responsibility in each specific action, and contribute to building a prosperous, low-emission Viet Nam, for the green future of the country and the planet.
