This is the country’s first hosting of the biggest regional sporting event.

At the SEA Games 32 held in Cambodia, Southeast Asian athletes will compete in 38 sports, with 608 sets of medals, including demonstration sport Teqball (a ball sport that is played on a curved table, combining elements of football and table tennis).

This is a record number of medals in SEA Games history, surpassing the number of 530 medal sets at the 30th SEA Games held in the Philippines. In the list of 38 sports, the host Cambodia has omitted many Olympic sports such as shooting, archery, rowing and canoeing.

This is not the strength of the host country but the "gold mine" of Vietnam. These sports brought home 28 Gold medals for the Vietnamese sports delegation at SEA Games 31.

Instead, Cambodia has added many local sports such as Kun Bukator, and Khmer martial arts at SEA Games 32. The SEA Games 32 will be held from May 5 to May 17, 2023, at five locations in Cambodia, including Phnom Penh capital, Siem Reap province, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep.

The list of 38 sports at SEA Games 32 includes athletics, water sports (swimming, diving, water polo and diving), badminton, basketball, billiards, boxing, bodybuilding, chess, cycling (mountain biking and road cycling), cricket, dance sport, E-sport, fencing, floorball, football (men and women), golf, fitness (aerobic and gymnastics), hockey (indoor and outdoor), jet ski, judo, karate, mixed martial arts (Bokator, Arnis, Jujitsu, Kickboxing, Vovinam, Khmer Martial Arts), obstacle race, pencak silat, petanque, sailing, sepak takraw, soft tennis, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, traditional boat racing, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wushu, wrestling and teqball.
