Phan Van Mai elected as Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee

Member of the Party Central Committee cum Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Phan Van Mai was elected as the new Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term during the second meeting of the 10th municipal People's Council on August 24.

Within the meeting, the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City voted to dismiss Nguyen Thanh Phong from the position of Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

The Politburo previously decided to assign Nguyen Thanh Phong as Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission.

Delegates voted to elect Phan Van Mai, who is also the head of Ho Chi Minh City's National Assembly Delegation, to hold the position of Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

Speaking at the meeting, Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen said that the Politburo's appointment of Nguyen Thanh Phong as deputy head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission was part of the personnel plan of the 13th National Party Congress and the decision was made at this time under the careful consideration of the Politburo.

Newly elected Chairman Phan Van Mai expressed his hope that he will receive the trust, support and suggestions of the members of the People's Council, the voters and the people of Ho Chi Minh City towards the fulfilment of his assigned tasks and responsibilities, thus contributing to the development of Ho Chi Minh City.
