Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement in Hanoi on December 27 at a conference to deploy the academy’s tasks for 2017.

PM Phuc spoke highly of contributions made by the VASS in conducting a number of important studies to offer policy recommendations to the Party and government, especially those regarding the fields of socio-economy, culture, politics and national defence-security.

The Government leader also emphasised that social sciences have provided a scientific foundation to the policy making process of the Party and State, while helping to consolidate the country’s political, educational and communication systems and encouraging people to realise revolutionary tasks.

He emphasised that national development requires a high consensus and all-round efforts from all available resources, particularly the innovativeness of scientists, adding that the Party and State have continually prioritised resources for the academy’s research activities over the past 63 years, both in infrastructure and personnel.

The VASS was also urged to issue highly reliable estimates and utilise scientific research results to solve the wealth gap, family issues and ethics in the market economy, among others; at the same time adopt advanced governance mechanisms to attract talents and expand international cooperation.

He also asked the VASS to work closely with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and expressed his hope that Vietnamese scientists would also serve as good advisors.

PM Phuc also pointed out key tasks for the academy, including facilitating the implementation of the 12th Party Congress Resolution, promoting national unity, and providing research for the Party and the State in designing guidelines, strategies, plans, and policies for national development and defence.
