The project covers an area of 27.73 hectares with total investment capital of over VND216 billion (US$10 million), 82% of which is funded by Norwegian ODA loans and 18% by a provincial counterpart fund.

The plant is expected to classify 160 tonnes of garbage per day when it begins operation in August, 2015.

Additionally, the plant is designed to produce 100 tonnes of organic fertilizer and five tonnes of recycled plastic per day.

Once complete, the system is expected to contribute to environmental protection in Soc Trang province, by reducing pressure on solid waste landfills in the province and helping limit environmental pollution caused by waste.
